For high school teams across the state, the last week of regular season football is upon us before selection Sunday on October 22nd, and teams are all jockeying for playoff seeding or spots in the final field of 288 teams. Across the Wayne area, all eyes remain on Belleville High School and their star quarterback Bryce Underwood. The team remains one of the 30 best in the country according to MaxPreps after a win to move them to 8-0. Belleville is looking to join Detroit Central Catholic as one of two teams to repeat as back-to-back-to-back state champions in the state’s top division.
The Tigers appear to be well prepared to do so and were clicking on all cylinders in their 40-0 victory over the Fordson Tractors. They’ll close out their regular season with a home game on Friday, October 20th against the 8-0 Northville Mustangs. Northville is currently ranked as a MaxPreps Michigan top 25 team, so the Tigers will have their work cut out for them. In their last time out, the Mustangs defeated Novi High School 28-14.
